ATS3 - 5W SMD Transceiver Group Project

ATS stands for Appalachian Trail Sprint . The Appalachian Trail in the United States is a long-distance hiking trail of about 3500 km that runs through various states. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appalachian_Trail

The developer, Steven Weber, KD1JV, has repeatedly covered a section of this trail over many years. During the winter months, he used his experience with his ATS devices, as well as new ideas, to develop a new device version. Steven Weber made his devices available to other amateurs in the form of a kit, usually in a series of one hundred. The kits were always sold out in a very short time.

Three ATS bulk orders were organized at the HTC. A total of 40 of these 5W SMD transceivers were manufactured by HTC members. The devices are called ATS3, ATS3A, and ATS3B. Each version always had a slightly different circuit design.

Initial skepticism about a device design with SMD components was dispelled by a spontaneous demonstration with exercises at the HTC-QRP party in Rothenturm. The HTC has "leading rams" with a lot of experience in electronics and device construction. They made themselves available when problems arose.
